On to Bigger Things

It's Balladeer Idol folks!   Come get your tickets!   It's so refreshing to know that in the coming weeks, themes like Favorite Movies, Disney songs, Aerosmith songs, Broadway, and even Rock Week will all blend in into a big mush of sleep inducing ballads.  Hopefully America will be awake to vote on time.

Last night Idol gave us the news fast.   Aubrey was chosen to open the tour with "Out Here On My Own".    I'm happy for her, but it hurt, not gonna lie.    I was not a happy turtle last night, I went inside my shell and called it a night.

But this morning I read Charlie's words and I was amazed by his wisdom and comforting words to US -his fans.    He was not writing with sadness or any other feeling I'm sure we felt.  No words about his music/aristry/future plans.  He was just there to hold all his awkward turtles together in a big virtual hug with words so sweet, so mature for his age that had me tearing up.    After reading it, I felt like a soaring eagle.   That my friends is called a winner at life.  And win, he most definitely will do.

Can't wait for what's to come.    There is too much talent and passion to keep it all in.   He has all this music ready.  I know that what ever he puts out there will be ground breaking.   "Awkward" will not be the right word to describe him.  He'll just be a star.

On to bigger things my sweet Charlie.  Bigger and Grander.

For those who missed Charlie's post:

I'm freeee!! This just means I get to do my own thing now. The experience would've been good, but I've traveled with a band before. I'll be fine. I'm so proud and happy for Aubrey, you have no idea. I wish her the best of luck, and hope she has fun on the tour! :D And turtles, growing up I was always the one people my age tended to shun, and call a freak. Whenever you feel like you don't fit in, or you're not meant to be here just remember:

1. Everything happens for a reason and every living soul is here on this earth because it was meant to be here. Everyone has a purpose and a reason to be here.
2. You're really not the awkward ones at all. Anyone who bullies you, or calls you out on it, they're all trying to fit into this norm, or this image that the mainstream deems "cool". In the grand scheme of things, they're the awkward ones, and you are the winners at the game of human life. How are you winning? By staying true to what YOU love, and what YOU think is cool and what speaks to YOU personally no matter how many "freak" or "weirdo" comments you get. You're beautiful for being YOU. Not for trying to be something that you're not. You're plenty "cool" for not even trying.
Oh yeah, and thank you all for listening to me sing. Y'all aren't done with me yet! ;)

  1. Yes I saw this on Facebook, he's such a great sport. He even demonstrated this in the Hollywood group rounds when he was sick and still managed to give a great performance and worked with his team instead of wanting people to feel sorry for him. The only comment I could even think of to write on that post was simply "I love you Charlie!!!!!" There are no words for how mature he really is and wise beyond his years. I think he is really happy not to be associated with the show in any way at this point because he knows they would try to control him too much.

  2. Lyndsey Parker, who writes a blog about Idol for Yahoo, said on Twitter that she thought if Charlie had been on this week he would have sung "Why Don't We Do It In the Road" just to freak people out. Hahhaha I do have to wonder what he would have sung had he been on the show this week. I actually think he would have picked a more obscure song, like one of those ones that you never heard before. He'd sound great singing pretty much any Beatles song, I'd love to hear him on the piano with Let It Be, Yesterday, Here Comes the Sun, or The Long and Winding Road.

  3. And the double standard continues where America refused to vote for Charlie after his "meltdown" to put him out of his misery, yet they think Lazaro deserves a second chance after outright crying AND delivering a horrid performance? Come ON! It's just unfair to the other contestants, Paul was by no means the best vocalist there but he was definitely better than him, and Lazaro deserved to at least be in the Bottom 3 over Amber or Devin. It's also unfair to Lazaro himself, the longer he gets through, the more he thinks he has a chance of winning and he doesn't. No one is telling him that he is out of his league here, the judges keep commending him for his "bravery" which is basically a nice way of saying "You pretty much suck but kudos for doing your best!" Somebody just be freakin' honest with this kid already. He probably feels terrible that he is there over more deserving contestants.

  4. I think Lazaro will probably stay till the top 4. I think he's very popular. Non of the boys really thrill me but first one to go should have been Lazaro not the last one standing of the boys.

Someone commented that they needed another girl for the tour since they will have a girl winner. That would leave 5 boys and 4 girls for alot of the singing group numbers. Now it's supposed to be equal boys and girls and then the winner sings in the end. I guess this is someone that's been to the last concerts. I haven't so I'm not sure what the dynamics for the group numbers are.

Yeah, I also just wanted to tell Charlie that we loved him because that's what he gave us with his post--a whole lot of love. :)

  5. I actually think we may see an all-female Top 5. Lazaro may have scraped by the last couple weeks, but I think people are starting to see through him and realizing he is a very weak vocalist. His fans will no doubt SuperVote for him for hours but hopefully this will make other fanbases up their game and vote just as much for the other contestants. I wish instead of voting FOR contestants we could vote AGAINST other contestants. At this point many people seem to want him gone, even the judges and Jimmy. It'd be one thing if he was just an okay singer, but the kid doesn't know who he is as an artist! If he actually won the show, what would Jimmy do with him? What kind of record would he make? At least the other contestants know what genre works for them, Lazaro is just clueless.

Devin is the only boy I like, although sometimes I agree with others that he can be boring and old-fashioned, which unfortunately keeps landing him in the Bottom 3 every week. Speaking of that, I found it weird that last week they did actual rankings but not this week. Maybe they disliked the idea? I actually liked it a lot, it was interesting to see who placed where. (Maybe they didn't want to reveal that Lazaro probably got into the Top 3 this week....) Burnell's tone is interesting, but his hand motions are rather distracting and his performances are all the same.

The only girl I can really stand at this point is Kree. Candice has a great voice but I'm beginning to tire of her and she seems to have some kind of attitude that is off putting to me. She has no compelling story at all. Angie has been on my nerves since Day 1. She'll make Top 3 easily along with Kree and Candice but I don't think she should or will win. She is a great vocalist but lacks soul and is too dramatic and theatrical and calculated with her performances. I used to like Amber, but I'm beginning to find her off putting as well. I like Janelle well enough, I just don't know if I find her that interesting. I really hope Kree wins, she has a great voice, and she never oversings like many of the other contestants do (I don't get where Jimmy's comment about that even came from...) and she has a great backstory. For me, she's just so easily likable, she has a very easy and laid back, down to earth aura about herself. She is pretty enough without looking like a robot or pageant queen with 10 gallons of makeup on. Her performances are raw and honest, she doesn't fake anything or force anything or think too much (cough Angie cough)

I honestly don't know the format of the tours either because I've never been to one. You can look at the setlists for each year on Wikipedia though. The thing is, most seasons have always been a Top 10, so there were always 5 guys and 5 girls. Obviously with an odd number there will be 1 extra boy or 1 extra girl. The winner does appear in the second half of the show. The group numbers do not always feature every contestant- for example I think in Season 10 Stefano sang a song with 3 or 4 girls backing him up. I don't think it really matters whether there is an equal amount of boys and girls or not.

The reason why I think Aubrey was chosen was because, either somehow she really did win, or because all the other contestants are boring, bland balladeers, what's one more to round out the bunch? She's pretty to look at so maybe they will draw in some male audience members, who knows. I think they just didn't know what to do with Charlie and they probably figured he'd be better off on his own (out here on his own heheheh) They don't always have the contestant's best interests at heart, but perhaps they really did this time with Charlie. At least I'd like to believe their hearts grew a few sizes that day.

  6. Our Charlie is a diamond in a wold shaped like a ball. They labeled him awkward and then they blanked out and didn't know what else to expect from him. That's fine with me. But I do need for him to get on the ball and start putting lyrics to his music and upload it to youtube. He needs someone to guide him in this and i'm sure his family will figure out how to go about it.

Kree has always been my 2nd favorite after Charlie for the same reasons you mentioned. She is also unique in her own way, her voice is smooth as butter, she's effortless, she doesn't fake anything, and she seems very comfortable in her own skin. So hopefully she goes very far. They have to have a male in the top 5. I don't remember ever seeing a top 5 not mixed in.

When Devin mentioned his military school I finally realized that's where the blank face comes from. He doesn't emote anything. I don't feel whatever his song is about. He's a good singer but with no umph. Hopefully he'll loosen up and just sing from the heart.

    1. Oh my God you're right! I didn't even realize that until you said it! It's so true though, he rarely seems to show any kind of facial emotion when singing... It's a shame that he's the best male vocalist left but gets put in the bottom every week for the wrong reasons.

  7. This is very interesting: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8EG1Q1-V12I This is Curtis's exit interview with Michael Slezak. Around the 2:25-4:17 mark, he discusses the Hollywood rounds and reveals that Charlie got sick the morning of group day (not the previous night, like they said on TV) because he took a zinc pill on an empty stomach. He also says he thinks Charlie is a great singer and they worked very well together. Apparently Nicki referenced his comments after they had sung but it wasn't aired on TV.

When will Charlie learn not to do things on an empty stomach? XD

  8. I thought zinc pills are supposed to help you when you're sick? Weird. I have to listen to that interview. I'm not sure how that makes a difference as to when he got sick. The bottom line the words he said taken out of contest or not were offensive. You really can't fix that. I can't with Slezak right now . He irritated me so much because he was so anti-Charlie. Grrrrr!!

    1. Zinc pills can be used for many different reasons, but I'm guessing it probably made him throw up or something. Usually most medications are recommended to be taken with food or else it will cause stomach pain because the medicine is so strong. And I agree that still isn't really an excuse for what Curtis said, but I guess he was just worried that Charlie wouldn't be able to perform well which would affect his own performance. I watch all the Idology episodes with Melinda Doolittle just to hear their opinions on the show and I remember he didn't seem to like Charlie very much, but it might have been because he didn't think he was ready quite yet, not that he wasn't talented.

And I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed them trying to make the previous night look like "this morning." He was wearing completely different clothes! Who did they think they were fooling with that? XD

    2. So I posted the link to the video on Charlie's Facebook page and his dad commented this:

"Curtis arranged the song, gave himself the only solo. Charlie WAS listened to for assigning pitches for their 3 part harmony, since only he could do that."

      and

"Curtis was very frustrating for both Nick and Charlie to work with."

Once a liar, always a liar, I guess lol

  9. Wowwww!! I'm liking Charlie's Dad. He is so candid but respectful at the same time. So our Charlie had to let them know what note to sing to harmonize as well as they did. I believe it. Of course Curtis would make sure he would stand out. But in the end the public still noticed how brilliant Charlie is.

I need more Charlie. Can't take these ballads. They are sucking the life out of me!! lol Yup, already going through Askew withdrawals. ;)

  13. I like that his dad lets us know what Charlie's up to, I just wish Charlie would do that too! But I guess he is too busy recording his new material. ;-)

I wish Slezak or someone could do a really in-depth interview with Charlie but they only interview the Top 10. :-( Next week is Motown so maybe someone will finally do an upbeat song! Honestly I sort of half watch/listen while everyone is performing, I only fully pay attention when Kree or Devin is performing.

I'm surprised that Ellen DeGeneres hasn't had Charlie on her show yet, she seems like she would like him because he's so quirky and funny. We should do a Twitter petition and get him on there!
