Interview with Reality Rocks - Lyndsey Parker

So our Charlie finally came out of hiding!!  Lyndsey Parker did a great job interviewing him.  For those who have wondered why he hasn't used social media he basically said he was submerged with his writing and also is not accustomed using twitter and only posted on Facebook once a month.

He mentioned the private thing, and I know some of you think he needs to come out of his shell, but observing how he handled all the questions I don't see him having any problems.  I think he just needs someone to sit him down and answer questions.  Hopefully Lyndsey continues to follow his career.

We'll be hearing new music after May due to the AI contract he can't release anything sooner.  He's still debating whether he'll do the Voice or just start up a band.  Before this interview I didn't think he would do some other reality talent show, but after watching it,  I think he is ready to take on a new reality type of show.

I was surprised to hear that Steven Tyler told him he wasn't ready last year.  Maybe it was the nerves but I think Charlie is ready.     So hopefully we'll at least get some new music.    I don't expect him to do too much on social media so we'll have to rely on his Dad.

He did reveal more about his "Mama" song.  I was sad to hear his reasons for choosing the song but know that his music is therapy for him and he will heal from past wounds.

I was relieved to see that looked happy, calm and refreshed.  Can't wait to see what's in store for our dear Awkward Turtle. :)

  1. Yes I watched this interview and absolutely loved his sense of humor here. I was watching it in the student center at my school and had to fight from laughing out loud in public. XD He is adorably awkward here haha I see the fuller extent of his "awkwardness" now, when he mentioned he wasn't good at communicating with people, I always wondered what he meant- he would kind of start to say something and then veer off and just end with "Yeah, I don't know." I know how difficult this must have been for him to do and I'm so glad he cleared up some things we were wondering about, although if he wasn't allowed to post new music, he or his dad should have at least let us know that so we weren't sitting there wondering why he wasn't posting anything and needlessly placing the blame on him.

I loved his hilarious comment about Nicki: "She changes her image every DAY!" Hhahahahahhah it's funny because it's true XD Oh Charlie you're so funny

I really hope he'll try The Voice next year but if he decides to start a band or do something else I'd be fine with that too. Whatever he does, I just hope it will lead him somewhere and he'll be with people who will look out for him and try to help his career.

I had read previously that he auditioned last year and didn't make it because he was nervous but I had no idea that he had actually made it to the judges round. It makes me wonder why they didn't show his audition, although I guess it's good that they didn't lol And I'm also surprised they didn't mention that he was a returning contestant, they mentioned that about Candice and Amber. (Although recently I found out Burnell was a returning contestant as well and they didn't mention it) Everything happens for a reason and if Charlie did do that bad in his audition and was that nervous I think they made the right decision by having him wait another year. He would never have survived the other rounds if he was that nervous. This year when he walked into the audition room he seemed cool as a cucumber to me, so I think the waiting did him good, he was able to get more performing experience.

I had to laugh when he was like "I watch more shows on NBC than Fox" hahahahhahah Next he's gonna start promoting Pepsi instead of Coke XD

Let's hope that after the show is over he'll be able to release some music for us, like he said. I guess it makes sense that he can't until the show is over.

I know I complained about him never posting anything on Twitter or Facebook but then when he explained his reasoning I could definitely understand where he was coming from because I'm pretty much the same way. I just don't post very often, if I do it might be once a month like he said and it's usually song lyrics or something like that, never anything personal.

Let's hope he can do some more interviews in the future, although it's hard to say if that will happen since people are more interested in the Top 10 contestants. But I really enjoyed hearing from him and this was good experience for him.

  2. I surprised that a few still call him a ticking bomb and that's after watching the interview! Grrr, that ticks me off. He gave very good reasons to why he felt emotional. I realized he was emotional but then Nikki, his champion through out the whole thing decided that she of all people were going to put him in a box! I saw his emotional collapse the moment she finished critiquing him. It was the injustic of it all that finally made him cry. Ugh, we so need different judges. One that can say something in less than 10 minutes, one that doesn't critique the way they look, and one that understands different genres not just pop, because until then we'll get bland balladers as winners. They are lucky that Kree and Candice are singing so well, but the "IT" factor is not there. Charlie had it in spades.

Ok let me just think of happy thoughts now . He looked ADORABLE!! Second, he was calm and very smart with his answers. Even his strayed thoughts was endearing. You can't stop watching him and I believe that is part of his It factor. He really knows what he wants from his music. He is not worried or afraid to experiment with what he loves. I think it is important for him to totally close himself in a room and create, he is that kind of an artist. I think Lindsey will continue to interview him, she seemed like a genuine fan. Lots of peeps saw this interview that are not his fans so she does keep him in the news.

  3. Yeah I don't understand how even AFTER he explained his reasons people STILL think he is "unstable." I read a comment on TWOP recently (they were talking about when Ryan was trying to comfort Lazaro when he started crying and remembered him doing the same for Charlie) and they referred to him as "the crazy redhead that looked like he was going to go Columbine on stage." That's quite an extreme to compare him to a kid who shot a bunch of people. Because he CRIED????? WTF is wrong with people seriously.... Charlie is "different" but the kid isn't mentally impaired or anything!!!! Geez!!!! People are so stupid!!!!!

You know what's interesting? Lyndsey wrote another article on her blog about how Nigel said he thinks ratings are dropping because the judges have no chemistry. He said FOX is the one who hires the judges which is weird because I always thought that was part of his job. Even Nigel can see the judges do not work well together. Randy and Mariah keep to their side of the table, Nicki and Keith keep to their side, Mariah ignores everyone but Randy, Nicki makes faces when someone else is talking, Randy keeps bringing his stupid catchphrases, Mariah takes 10 minutes to say 1 comment, and Keith just tries to say something relatively nice and not get into a fight with anyone. The main problem is Nicki and Mariah. When Mariah actually has something important to say, she can make good and relevant, useful points, but she takes far too long to say it. Nicki usually has good comments as well, I don’t mind that a lot of them are about the looks because I think that is partially why she was hired (like Mariah is there to comment on vocals), but she and Mariah refuse to acknowledge each others’ existence and it just sends bad vibes all around the table with Randy and Keith awkwardly trying to keep them apart. A lot of the audience sense that and while I disagree with Nigel that that is THE reason why ratings are dropping (there are quite a few reasons), I do think that is one big reason why ratings have dropped.

  4. I signed up to take online surveys once in awhile about TV shows and recently I took one where they asked about some new possible judges (it didn't say for any specific show but it's probably a sign that they want to change the judges AGAIN next year, since The Voice just got new judges I doubt it's for The Voice)

I really hate that now in this week’s ad for the show they had to be all “We don’t know who’s gonna win... We just know it’s gonna be a WOMAN!!!!” Congrats TPTB- you finally manipulated your way into getting a female winner by stacking the deck as unevenly as possible, props to you. God that is so annoying! I don’t see why it matters what gender the winner is, as long as they are a good singer, are likable, and have potential to sell records. There are a few very good female singers left but the personalities are just not there. It’s not even just with Charlie, but there were plenty of other more memorable and likable singers like Matheus, Kez Ban, Jesiah Baer (never saw her again after her audition), Gabe Brown, etc.

Either they are just not showing the personalities they do have, or they really don’t have any personality to show. Some of the past winners may not have been the best singers in their seasons but they were at least likable and have sold very well since the show (at least as far as the last 2 seasons go) I can’t see many of these girls selling a lot after the show. Kree might fare well since country is popular, I don’t know about Candice. I like Kree well enough but there really is just nothing about her or Candice that is... well, interesting. The only thing Kree has going for her is that her parents died. Candice is from some small island in South Carolina and that’s about all we know about her. Janelle, while probably the weakest singer there, is ironically the most likable one there.

I can see Angie doing well in the Disney tweens market but on the other hand is veering towards Colton Dixon type of stuff... Christian music is quite popular though, so perhaps she can have the best of both worlds. Janelle may also do all right being country. Amber... well no one seems to like her except the judges and she doesn't have much originality. I don't know why they seem to think she is going to sell so many records- by doing what, being a wannabe Beyonce/Whitney Houston?

Idol is a sinking ship... Charlie would fare SO much better on The Voice. I've never watched an episode except the finale last year but I've seen a few auditions from this season and one of the battles, which was a pretty cool idea, or at least it was something different from what we see on Idol. Do you know if they even talk about backstories of the contestants? All I know is they come out for the blind audition and it's pretty much just about the singing from there on out, I haven't heard any backstories about these people. And like he said in his interview, that seems to be what he wants if he was on a show like this. Idol is far too concerned about backstories, how else did Lazaro get so far? I think that is where Charlie should be if he decides to go on another show, a show that focuses on singing and not other irrelevant stuff like wearing the right color lipstick.

The spoiler list is up for tonight. Angie is the only one doing a remotely current Divas song with "Halo" by Beyonce. Apparently the themes for next week are One Hit Wonders (which was the fan chosen theme) and Free Choice.

  5. I did read about Nigel blaming the lack of chemistry b/w the judges for the declining numbers. It does feel uncomfortable between the 2 divas, maybe that's why Nikki praised Mariah several times this past Wednesday. Who knows, it's probably a combination chemistry and manipulation for a female winner. I found funny that Michael from Idology made a segment to discuss wether the winner this year will have a hollow victory because they read several places from fans that they feel this way. I think Michael didn't think so but if there was it was a just result due to the many male winners and why can we just enjoy the show that has great 5 female finalists? Why can we just relax and enjoy such great talent? I'm paraphrasing of course. But, uhm are you kidding me??? It's one thing if they get rid of one contestant due to their sex but this started wayyyyyy before the top 10. There were amazing singers being left out. I felt the same way when Candice was ousted last year. My eyes popped out, i realized that her looks at the time didnt fit with the others in her group number, they wanted to make sure Jessica was going to be the queen bee that year who happened to be in Candice's group. Candice had the talent then as she does now. So it's bull that now they said she's improved. It's the manipulation that drives the fans bat crazy!! Because it takes away from the freedom of their choice. Idology just posted Lazaro's interview. He said there was no way that 5 guys in a row could have been ousted. I tend to agree. Mathematically the probability of that happening was very very small. So, if a contestant can see it you know darn well the fans do too.

So now American Idol know their days are numbered. So this year they have the contestants writing original music from the beginning of the season so if you were to win you already have new music to release in a matter of days after the finale. THIS was something that the fans wanted since season 1 !!! Waiting till November was too long. So now that the ship is sinking they are finally listening to the fans? 12 season later? Really? But wait, hold up, those very fans are now feeling betrayed by the continuous manipulation which was more obvious this year. So if there are any fans left maybe this could be their hail Mary.

At this point I really don't care who wins. They are all competent singers , just depends who has the musicality to understand their style, the type of music they want to put out. It's sad to be this disengaged this year, but that's where I find myself. I do like the Voice, but it took me this year to finally give it a chance. It is a fair competition the only thing is that when they put 2 singers to compete against each other, you could put a diva that can do runs all over the place and a rocker who is good too and you'll probably get the diva moving forward in the competition. I just hope that doesn't happen if Charlie wants to give it a try. They do touch on back stories right before they perform in the blind auditions. What i do like is that the judge truly champions you without silly manipulations. They become passionate about you, not about winning so much. They genuinely seem to want to polish you to do your best. So it would be pretty amazing to see Charlie's style and music grow and develop to something pretty incredible with the right coaches.

  6. Yup I watched both Slezak interviews. I really do think whoever wins this year it will be somewhat of a hollow victory, from a certain point of view. Of course any of the remaining 4 girls have superb vocal talent so the win is deserved, but at the same time, the producers stacked it specifically so that one of those 4 will win. It's like giving someone a head start in a race even if they don't need it and they win the race, well they didn't really win because they got a head start. Had there been some better boys this year I think we'd have seen at least one or two in this final 5 instead of Janelle or Amber.

A lot of people have told me I should try out for Idol and I've considered it many times but now I'm not so sure I ever would try out for this show simply because it's always been a little sketchy and suspicious. The Voice is probably the best show to try out for if you're really serious about getting a music career, although the past winners haven't seemed to go very far, but hopefully as the show gets more popular that will change. I can see Adam coaching Charlie very well.

I definitely think Candice was cut because A) She didn't fit into the "mold" they had that year and I definitely think they wanted Jessica to be their first female winner since she not only had the voice but was younger, prettier, and skinnier, and B) Perhaps they knew she might not win that year because of competition with Jessica but if they brought her back in Season 12 she could win the whole thing. I originally thought Kree was gonna win this year (and the producers might manipulate it so she does because her genre is more popular) but I think Candice is the one to beat now. Like you said, it doesn't really matter who wins now, all of them have good voices, but are equally dull as far as personality goes. I just find it so hard to root for ANY of them, even the ones with spectacular voices. Season 12 had the potential to be amazing with people like Charlie, Gabe, Matheus, Nick, Jesiah, Kez Ban, Juliana, etc. but they totally shot themselves in the foot and created THE most boring season of Idol ever. I used to rank Season 9 as the worst (out of the seasons I've watched anyway) but at least then I had Lee to root for. And we could count on someone to sing something upbeat once in a while and at least they all had some personality. Yeesh.

  7. I found Lazaro's interview very interesting. He said that on that Close to You song (or whichever song it was where he missed the key change), he said they put in a key change 5 minutes before they went on and it was different from the one he had been practicing all week. I don't know if I necessarily buy that given his history of lying to cover up his mistakes. But at the same time, I wouldn't put it past them to screw with a contestant especially one they want gone.

He is definitely right that there's no way 5 guys could have gone in a row. Well maybe THESE 5 guys because they either were not as vocally strong as the girls or their personalities were a turn off. Had there been 5 guys that were just as good as the girls, they would not have all gone in a row. Let's not forget that boring fanless Aubrey got the tour spot over Charlie... I still refuse to believe she got more public votes than he did, unless people still refused to vote for him because they think he's "unstable." No offense to her, her performance was great, but she was one of the more boring and forgettable contestants this season and while I'm sure she has fans, she couldn't have had nearly as many as him. The producers probably never even looked at those votes and put her through because she's a woman. I just love how they did this whole thing because people claim the show is sexist against women, well now they are just being sexist against men.

About Mariah and Nicki- okay I actually don't like it when they talk to each other, they're overpowering each other and I can't even understand what either of them are saying because they're talking over one another. I'm sure TPTB gave them a talking to before the show and told them to acknowledge each other for once. I think it was a mistake having BOTH of them on the panel this year. The show is always better with 3 judges and they could have done with just one or the other. You can't have two female divas with giant egos/personalities on the same panel and expect it to be all sunshine and rainbows. You just can't. If there's even a Season 13 the panel should be Keith, Randy, and Mariah. I like Nicki but many people have stopped watching because of her so I think it'd be better to get rid of her and keep Mariah even though Mariah rambles and gets paid way more than she should but people like Mariah so I guess it doesn't matter.

  8. I believe Lazaro stating that they changed his key in the last minute. This is one of those manipulating techniques they do to manipulate the public. Charlie was told that "Mama" was great from the coaches and producers, everyone gave him the thumbs up. But if you go back to that night, the other boys got girls cheering for them as they performed, as if they were fangirling. So i expected the same when Charlie came on , but they made sure to have only silence from the crowd while he sang and then the judges hammered him. It was all a set up. Same thing happened to Clay. The producers wanted Ruben, he was the one the media focused on. So towards week 8 or 9 of the competition they had to choose songs from a jar. Everyone got a fair song but Clay got the most depressing song ever created called "Vincent". It had no moments, just monotone sad lyrics and notes. But not happy with that set up about 20min or 1/2 hour before the live cast they added a whole new paragraph to his song requesting for him to memorize it giving him a lame reason that they realized they needed to fill extra time. Clay got up and stumbled on the words when he got to the new paragraph. Immediately Paula hammered him for forgetting the words. This is week 8 or 9, you were not supposed to forget anything. That caused him votes and Ruben gained more. I'm sure there are more tricks that others can tell you but those are the ones that come to mind.

Talking about Clay, i just saw his post interview and he said that things have changed so much. During his time, you just stood in the middle of a lame stage, a song track backing you up and you just sang. No tricks no production of any kind. He remembered when he once asked for a stool to sing one of his songs. Everyone around him got nervous as if he had asked for something very risque. So they told him that they were not sure of that and they would have to talk to the producers and top heads! LOL. He was like "now, they don't care if they set themselves on fire or fly through the vents!" ha ha! Gotta love his sense of humor.

By the way I still think you should try for Idol or the Voice or Splash etc. LOL.

  9. Interesting.... that is why I think Charlie would be better for The Voice, or The Voice is better in general because as far as I know they wouldn't stoop that low to such shenanigans. Maybe no one was cheering for Charlie because he was doing such an angry, dark song (and also one that most people weren't familiar with) I admit it's my least favorite performance from him, the song itself was just depressing and his moves were a tad awkward, he looked angry (for the mood of the song) and I don't know... it just sent bad vibes. What happened afterwards didn't make it any better. People cheered for him during his Rocket Man performance because that was FUN and he was happy and smiling. I don't see why they'd try to sabotage him in particular when he clearly was one of the most popular contestants. Especially also that they approved of his song choice and didn't try to give him Hallelujah like they originally wanted shows they thought it was gonna go over well. If they really wanted to sabotage him, they would have made him sing something else, but they let him sing what he wanted to and it was Charlie's choice to do that song, so he can take the fall for that performance, whether people liked it or didn't like it. If that song had been given to him, of course it would be unfair to make him responsible for all the negative comments, but given that he chose that song... he's responsible for the outcome.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Hmmm after rereading this I do understand what you mean about "sabotaging" him because, like I said, he was one of the most popular contestants and an obvious threat to the girls. Given who was put into the Top 5 Males, Charlie would have been a giant threat. Perhaps maybe they did think Mama was going to be a bad performance but... even without their input, in the end, that was still Charlie's decision to do that song.

I know Elijah wasn't the best singer there but I also think they considered him a threat because of the Bieber comparisons and judges' comments about marketability. Cortez, while also not the best singer, also did current songs and seemed more marketable than any of the dudes who actually made the Top 10.
